CLARA V. POWELL
CHILDRENS LIBRARY OF COLOR
Player 1 Academy's Black Library (The Clara V. Powell Children's Library of Color) only carries children's books written by black authors and depicts black children. Students who see themselves reflected in the books they're reading are more engaged and curious about different things they can learn from a book. Our focus is on increasing access to children's books that center, reflect, and affirm the experiences of Black children.
Our library carries a wide range of children's books written by black authors, including picture books, chapter books, and graphic novels. These books feature black protagonists and explore a variety of themes, from family and friendship to social justice and identity. By reading these stories, students can develop empathy, broaden their perspectives, and build their literacy skills.
In addition to providing access to diverse books, we also host events and workshops that celebrate black culture and promote literacy. Our goal is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where all students can feel empowered and inspired to learn. We believe that by investing in the education and well-being of black children, we can help build a more equitable and just society for all.
